The Tomato Martini
When you hear "martini" what pops into your mind? Gin, vermouth, and olives, right? Well not so much anymore! In this day and age anything you throw into a martini glass is now called a "martini". There are hundreds of martini recipes out there and when tonight's "Happy Hour" is over there will be hundreds more in the morning. So it looks like today's martini is a work in progress. Now these recipes are for people who love Bloody Marys and will surely will impress your friends.
Mixing Tip: Always (yes always) use fresh ice, and keep everything as cold as possible- your cocktail shaker, the martini glass, your liqueur, cocktail picks- yes everything.
SPICY TOMATO MARTINI
8 ounces of vodka.
4 tablespoons of tomato juice.
1 teaspoon of green hot sauce.
Juice of one medium lemon.
2 tablespoons of pickle juice.
(optional) Dash of Worcestershire Sauce or A-1
Pour your vodka into a shaker half full of ice.
Add the green hot sauce.
Give the shaker a good shake.
Add the tomato and lemon juices.
Another couple of shakes.
Strain into 2 well chilled martini glasses.
Garnish with grape tomatoes on a sword.
Yellow Tomato Martini
1 1/2 oz of vodka
2 oz of freshly juiced yellow tomato
(or you can blend and strain them)
dash of salt
A couple drops of Green Tabasco (to fit your taste)
Juice of half a lime
A couple drops of Worcestershire sauce (again to fit your taste)
In an ice-filled shaker, combine the tomato juice, salt, Tabasco, lime juice, and Worcester. Add the vodka, shake, strain into a martini glass, and serve with a skewer of three baby yellow tomatoes
For an extra added punch for your next party or BBQ give this recipe a whirl:
Cherry Tomatoes In An Over sized Martini Glass
(this takes twenty four hours to marinate but a ten minute prep)
30 to 40 cherry tomatoes, or grape tomatoes
1 tbs of garlic
1 tsp of salt
1 tsp of pepper
750 ml of vodka
Tabasco sauce (optional)
parsley (for garnish)
lemon pepper seasoning (served in high ball on the side)
toothpicks or swords (placed in shot glass on the side)
Cut a shallow cross shape in the top of each tomato, put them in a large bowl and add the garlic (as much or as little as you like), a little salt, Tabasco (optional) and do not forget the vodka. Allow the tomatoes to marinade in the vodka, stirring occasionally; Let them soak overnight covered with a lid or saran wrap and after 24 hours they can be put in the refrigerator. Pour into a large over sized martini glass and serve with a highball glass of Lemon Pepper for dipping and a shot glass with toothpicks or swords.
Think about it once you have mastered exotic martini recipes you will be known among your friends as the "martini master"! Here's to you master.
